About Birdie
Birdie Clift is the Executive Director of Discovery Point Retreat’s Dallas location, with more than fifteen years of experience in addiction treatment spanning clinical care and operations. Her path at Discovery Point Retreat began in one of the most client-facing roles in the building: aftercare concierge. Watching what happened to clients after formal treatment ended shaped everything that came next — she saw where structure helped people succeed, and where its absence let them fall through the cracks.
That insight became the Roadmap to Recovery — the structured, privilege-based treatment pathway Birdie developed, now a cornerstone of Discovery Point Retreat’s programs. It pairs earned privileges with accountability, giving clients clarity and momentum through every phase of treatment.
Birdie is in recovery herself. She understands the fear, the ambivalence, and the courage involved in walking through a treatment center’s doors — because she has done it. That experience shapes how she connects with clients: without judgment, with empathy, and with the conviction that recovery is possible. It also shapes how she leads — working alongside her team rather than above them.
Beyond Work
Birdie’s story is, above all, a family story. She and her high-school sweetheart have raised four children together - Addie, Tate, Zachary, and Daylon - and their love has carried them through every season of life, including Birdie’s addiction. She gives all glory to God for the moment she understood what complete surrender to treatment really meant, and she credits her family’s grace through that season for the compassion she brings to her work today. These days the family is still growing: Birdie and her sweetheart now have two grandchildren, Heidi and Malcolm, who light up every gathering.
Their son Zachary fought a lifelong battle with NBIA, a rare neurodegenerative disease, and passed away in November 2024 at 26 years old. Birdie remains forever grateful for the trust placed in her family to be the ones who cared for Zachary during his time here on earth.
Looking ahead, Birdie’s long-term goal is to earn her MBA - and she has her eye on the Executive MBA program at SMU’s Cox School of Business in Dallas.
